Many consumer routers don’t have a built-in feature to deploy as an access point. They can, however, be used as an access point by turning off a few features and wiring it up correctly.

Disable services

  1. Disable DHCP
  2. Change LAN IP & subnet mask to something in your existing subnet
  3. Disable RIP
  4. Disable UPnP

Wiring

Plug a cable between the switch ports on your new AP into a switch on your existing network (do NOT plug into the WAN/internet port).
